Whalers Look To Kick Off Season This Weekend

Fergus, Ontario – After 18 months of planning and building, President and Director of Hockey Operations, Jason Baier’s vision is about to come to life.

Taking the ice this past weekend in Kincardine for the team’s first exhibition games, the team faced tough battles against the host Bulldogs, and the defending Schmaltz Cup Champions, the Wellesley Apple Jacks.  While the scores did not come out in the teams favour, the boys showed excellent promise, and it was evident the team bonding has begun as we head into opening weekend.

The boys bounced back on Sunday afternoon, taking to the road for a match up against the Hespeler Shamrocks.  It was an excellent showing by 2 newly signed players, Evan Ahearn and Boden Brimmell who each potted a goal.  Ryan McDougall scored the other, and Jacob McKenney picked up the win in the 3-2 victory.  The Whalers next match up comes this evening in Parkhill, Ontario as the team takes on the North Middlesex Stars.  Puck drop is at 8:20pm and Bradley Boville takes the crease.

Expect an exciting weekend from the team.  Saturday night the group heads to Mount Forest for the Inaugural game against the Patriots.  Mount Forest, who won the Pollock Division Championship last season,  is sure to have a strong team again with many returning players as well as some key additions.  Puck drops at 8:00pm and tickets are available at the door.

Sunday is the day we have all been waiting for.  The return of Junior hockey to Centre Wellington.  We hope you will join us for our 1st home game.  We have lots in store planned, and it will be a great battle with the Mitchell Hawks.  The boys will take the ice for warm up at 2:30pm with the game getting underway shortly after 3:00pm.  Doors open at 2:00pm, and seating is first come first serve.

We are still looking for local sponsors and game day volunteers.  If you are interested in getting involved, please
